Our Theme Weeks enhance and widen our already detailed, well-planned topics and curriculum.
A Theme Week is a theme/topic/project taught over one week usually every afternoon. The children have the opportunity to deepen and explore their understanding of a certain curriculum area.
In previous years the following activities have been included in Theme Weeks – visiting places out of school, working with visitors, producing their own exhibitions of work, parent open afternoons, performances, dance workshops, music concerts, and much more.
Every Year Group works on the same curriculum area during the week. The weeks are planned to ensure year group expectations are met and all abilities are catered for. The subject leader plans the activities and the class teachers amend the activities to suit their classes.
Parents are always invited into class during Theme Weeks to support their child or to look at their work completed over the week. Sometimes there is a small money contribution asked for from parents to help support buying new equipment or funding trips and visitors.
From evaluations from staff and pupils over the last eight years they have always been thoroughly enjoyed! There is always a great ‘buzz’ around school during a theme week. (Please see the photographs).
The Theme Weeks are organised into a two year cycle:
Autumn Term – Design & Technology
Spring Term –The Arts (music, art, dance, drama and creative writing)
Summer Term – R.E.
Autumn Term – PE/Outdoor Adventure Activities
